Excelsior Ltd
Excelsior Limited was established in 1897 and is now one of Europe's leading rotational moulders and manufacturers of fabricated products. Originally set up by two Swiss businessmen, Excelsior, which is owned and run by the Fielding family, became a limited company in 1902 and specialised in the manufacture of vulcanised fibre containers for the then thriving textile industry.
Excelsior continued to manufacture fibre boxes and containers, and in the 1970's also began to manufacture rotationally moulded plastic trucks which were, and still are, supplied to all of the major UK and European mail order catalogues and franchisees, including leading names such as Kaiser Kraft, Key Industrial and Welconstruct.
What can Excelsior do for you ?
Excelsior has an enormous portfolio of materials handling products at its disposal ranging from grit bins to safety steps to nesting trucks. It has recently added new products to the best selling safety step, grit bin and ingredients range, all of which are available now. For customers who require a size that is not available within our proprietary range, a sheet steel or cast aluminium tool can be manufactured in-house enabling customers to have their own product at a cost effective rate.
Aside from materials handling, the rotational moulding division is also heavily involved in the manufacture of portable pop-up display cases for the Exhibition Display industry. Having established itself as one of the European market leaders, Excelsior have recently cemented their position with the introduction of several new and innovative cases.
Rotational Moulding
The final arm of the rotational moulding division is the custom moulding service. Excelsior specialises in providing a bespoke product design service and has its own in-house sheet steel tool- making and CAD design facilities, meaning that customers need only use one supplier. Start up costs in rotational moulding are comparatively low and the process is ideally suited to small and medium sizes batch runs, making it very flexible and versatile. Excelsior now do business with a vast array of different companies, and products that have been designed, developed and moulded in-house range from missile cases to golf trolleys and even hair dressing units. The demand for rotationally moulded products grows year by year as industry realises the potential and advantages that the process has to offer.
Flight Cases and Fabricated Containers
Excelsior's Case and Container division supply standard ranges of boxes and trucks to the mail order catalogues, however their main emphasis is on providing a bespoke flight case manufacturing service. They are particularly involved in the manufacture of custom cases for the design, entertainment and theatrical sectors, and cases can range from small portfolio cases through to full flight and mixing unit cases as supplied to the BBC. Excelsior also manufacture fibre cases and currently supply storage boxes to all Muji stores across the UK and Europe. A range of materials are available, from extruded plastic sheet (excelthene) and fibre for more basic constructions, right through to aluminium backed plywood and diamond board for full flight cases.
General Information
Products:
Rotational moulding – all our products are manufactured from high quality medium density food grade polyethylene. Polyethylene offers the following qualities:
- Good resistance to most acids, alkalies and chemicals. Please refer to our chemical resistance guide for further information. Should you not see the chemical that you are looking for please contact our sales office on 0161 797 0855 and we will check suitability with our raw material suppliers.
- Wide operating temperature range of -20º to +60ºc.
- Polyethylene products are extremely durable and will give many years’ service when used with reasonable care.
- Polyethylene products are easy to clean and are ideal for washdown applications.
- We recommend support frames for large tanks – please check with our sales office if you are in any doubt as polyethylene products will stretch if filled with too much liquid.
Fabricated – all our products are manufactured from the highest quality materials, including extruded plastic, aluminium, PCV backed plywood, astroboard and diamond board. Dimensions:
The utmost care is taken to check dimensions and give the most accurate information possible, however, rotationally moulded products are subject to tolerances so dimensions quoted can only ever be nominal. If dimensions are critical please contact our sales office for further assistance.
Environmental issues:
Although food grade polyethylene is used for every rotationally moulded product, coloured tanks, bins and trucks may not be suitable for use with raw food uses. Additionally, some products are fitted with plywood bases which may not be suitable for some food environments. Where plywood is not acceptable we are usually able to fit plastic or galvanised bases at an extra cost.
