Excelsior and Falkirk go Eco Friendly
Excelsior Roto Moulding and Falkirk Council have teamed up to provide a cost effective and eco friendly solution to a Wintery problem.
With Winter just round the corner, and already underway in some parts of Scotland, Falkirk Council have decided to invest in 50 roadside Grit Bins to provide a means for the public to assist in ensuring their roads stay free from ice and snow. In an effort to secure a solution that is both environmentally friendly and cost effective, Falkirk Council and Excelsior settled on a 500 kg capacity Grit Bin, of which 80% is made up of recycled plastic. Using recycled plastic not only reduces the amount of plastic going to landfill, but it is also considerably cheaper and helped to save the Council about 25% on the unit price of the bin.
Paul Thomson, from Falkirk Council, had this to say on the new Grit Bin:
"We were looking for an environmentally friendly stable grit bin which is clearly recognisable as such to the public. The new bin developed by Excelsior met our requirements and will soon be seen across the local area"
Although Grit Bin’s are traditionally Yellow in colour, more environmentally sensitive colours such as Forest Green are becomingly increasingly popular and due to the cost saving and eco friendly nature of black, these too are increasing in popularity.
