Excelsior’s Rich Heritage – The final instalment.
We’ve travelled through history from the late 1800’s where we originally operated with horse drawn coal carts. More than 100 years later we’re still working with horses, albeit in a very different way. Classic Showjumps supply colourful, practical and durable equine to stable owners and riders of all levels. A trading arm of Excelsior, Classic is highly pro-active, always looking to bring new equine products to market and supply overseas partners, recently expanding into North America.

Within our current 44,000 sq. foot facility, we run our variety of roto moulding machines for both contract moulding clients and to produce our own stock to supply to trade and retail suppliers.
Our 50 strong team work to ensure that we meet our production and quality targets. In 2023 we invested in a brand new 3 station shuttle machine which takes us to 8 machines of varying types and increases our capacity at a very busy time for the business.

Although the processes remain relatively unchanged, we work hard to ensure that we are making strides to be as environmentally aware as possible ensuring that we keep our environmental impact as minimal as possible. Our products are also helping to reduce our carbon footprint, by supplying the UK from our facility in Bury, to clients choosing us as a UK Supplier to reduce the miles that their products travel.
We actively work to make our processes more efficient to reduce energy consumption and the longevity of our products helps reduce the amount of waste going to landfill. We recycle and reuse waste materials, grinding down all our waste and offcuts into granules which are then sent for processing by a Darwen based company. The recycled black polymer is then processed into products which are slightly less expensive than virgin products and are extremely popular across a wide range of sectors.

We have faced many challenges with Brexit, Covid and global fluctuations such as rising material and energy prices, however, we have faced all of these with a strategic and open mind, and a willingness to support our customers to help drive their businesses forward.
As always, our customers have been fantastic and are why we always strive to go the extra mile no matter what. Some of our materials handling customers have worked with us for over 30 years, and in that time, we have built extremely solid relationships based on trust and cooperation. Likewise, we have worked with many of our contract moulding customers for a very long time, people buy from people and we always strive to ensure that each and every customer is as important as any other regardless of turnover.
Furthermore, with our computerised production system, we are able to provide an excellent level of support to our customers as we know exactly where their order is within the factory and can provide extremely accurate lead times as a result. Our staff know exactly what they are producing, we have the ability to add technical data and PDF’s for example for products where some level of assembly is required, and we have a rigorous inspection process in place through our production floor and in our despatch department. As the saying goes, the customer is King and our customers are everything to us.
Despite the challenges faced by UK businesses, Excelsior remains optimistic about the future. There’s a clear demand for investment in new products and markets, and their hardworking and dedicated team has played a crucial role in navigating the last 18 months successfully.
Excelsior’s commitment to innovation, quality, and collaboration has helped us to where we are today. We continue to adapt and thrive to ensure that the company and family remains firmly etched in the annals of plastic product manufacturing.
