We’re now well into the New Year, and here at Excelsior we’re feeling hugely optimistic about the year ahead. We’re fully staffed, fully operational, and busier than ever with new roto moulding projects, which are showing no sign of slowing down any time soon. 2020 brought us our fair share of uncertainty and challenges – just as it did for every company – but it also marked several milestones for us and some positive developments for the industry as a whole. So we thought we’d take a moment to tell you a bit about them, and why we’re perfectly positioned to make your plastic product a reality this year.
Record year for equestrian sales
Equestrian sales account for around 10% of our turnover here at Excelsior, and our Classic Showjumps brand saw record sales in 2020 with excellent growth across the UK and Europe. You don’t necessarily need to be an expert analyst to see why – with the cancellation or postponement of equestrian events and competitions, many riders found themselves spending more time at home with their horses. And with more disposable income available (saving on the expenses of entering, training for and competing in these events), they decided to invest in more equestrian products for the yard, field and stable to treat themselves and their horses.
As the future of many established events still looks uncertain for the time being (at least at the time of writing), the demand for new equestrian products is showing no sign of slowing down. We’ve recently taken on a whole new raft of European equestrian accounts, with sales more than doubling in Europe.
British companies are seizing the initiative
The enthusiasm for equestrian sales is part of a wider trend we’ve noticed here at Excelsior – now more than ever, our customers seem determined to get their projects off the ground with the help of a trusted plastic manufacturer. Understandably, many companies seem tired of having to repeatedly reschedule and postpone their plans, and now that 2020 is behind us, there finally appears to be light at the end of the tunnel – giving them all the optimism they need to forge ahead with their projects. As a result, we’re dealing with consistently high levels of contract moulding enquiries, with new contract moulding customers coming on board at the moment and more set to join them very soon. They like the way that we operate and the personal, friendly and professional approach is always key.
The emergence of the pandemic also seems to have accelerated a particularly positive trend, namely that there’s a renewed enthusiasm for Buying British. Amongst the general economic upheaval of the last twelve months, there’s been an increasing national focus on supporting businesses closer to home. That applies to not just large corporations, but individual members of the general public too, and now that’s starting to translate into a noticeable impact on multiple British industries. That’s something we’re especially passionate about here at Excelsior, and as we covered recently, there’s a firm belief that it will end up reshaping British manufacturing for the better.
